Today I stopped at Sherwin Williams to buy “Decisive Yellow” paint. This is the color we selected for the front door of our new house and I decided to paint our red outside bistro table this color and bring it to the house to see if it fit the bill as the “right” yellow. This got me thinking about what it is about yellow.
During all of the years we’ve thought about building a house we always knew we wanted it to be gray with wide white trim but we never spent time on the color for the front door. Then, in March, shortly before our home selections meeting, it came to me…YELLOW! I love yellow. I’ve always loved yellow. Yellow is my favorite color and it’s the color that best represents me. Back when I was young I wanted a 560SL yellow convertible Mercedes (there’s still time, right?).
When it comes to the home, yellow has played a primary color role in every house we’ve had. The first pieces of furniture (a couch and a love seat) we bought together for our first apartment was yellow. We painted the kitchen yellow in our first house on Highland Parkway. and then we bought a yellow house in Eagan. We have yellow plates, yellow cups, yellow accessories and more.
Yellow represents happiness and cheer and creates a welcoming feeling. Yellow is bold and makes a statement and stands out. Yellow is decisive. Yellow is US. (Okay, maybe me a bit more than Ben but go with me on this.)
So, how did the newly-painted-yellow bistro table look on the porch of the new house?
In a word…Perfect.

Ha and I knew Ben would be my favorite teacher when he wore that funny yellow sweater vest π
